Q: What do you charge per square foot?

A: Short answer, it depends. While the amount of stone required for your project is a significant part of the price, there are other variables.

Q: What are the pricing variables?

A: They include the complexity of your project, the type of stone, edge selection, the

number and types of sinks , type of range and backsplashes. Other special features; outlet cutouts, overhang supports, additional installation and removal services.

Q: Do you have slab material in stock?

A: We have 1 color we stock continually, Corian Quartz Ashen Grey. We periodically have other slabs of varying types of stones and colors. Check in stock slabs.

For smaller projects, check our remnant inventory on the main page.

Q: How do I measure my counters?

A: Draw a rough shape of your current countertop; the lines do not need to be exact. Then

measure along every edge of your counter and mark the dimensions. Note placements of sinks, range, backsplash, refrigerator and anything else significant to your project.

You can also send a photo for reference or use our instant quoting tool drawing feature.

Q: Do you use automated fabrication machinery, or do you fabricate by hand?

A: At Mountain Tops we do both. For solid surface – by hand, Stone – by hand and machine. As the CNC machine cuts and polishes initially we go back over with hand polishers to achieve a higher quality look. We often DO NOT polish on site, as we use a water source to keep the stone dust to a minimum.

Q: What do I do if my countertop chips?

A: If you happen to get a chip, save the pieces. Usually we can adhere the piece back but

wouldn’t be as strong in the area as original. Other chips would require an epoxy fill or super

glue that will be a semi-permanent “fix”, to help avoid further pitting.

Q: What is the typical overhang on countertops?

A: the typical overhang on all exposed edges of countertops is 1 ½”. Additional overhangs for

islands, peninsulas or raised bar; most common is 12” for comfortable seating and no extra

supports required. For quartz if the amount exceeds 12”, granite – 6”, solid surface – 6”

without supports; discuss with the templator what extra supports are needed.

Q: How do I clean my countertops?

A: Please refer to our clean & maintenance page.

Q: What is the difference between granite and quartz?

A: The main difference is that granite is a natural stone and quartz is a manufactured stone.

Granite is porous and would require sealing periodically depending on stone type and use.

Quartz is non-porous and will never need to be polished. It also has more consistent colors and patterns within the slab than granite, which can vary from slab to slab. Quartz is not

recommended for outdoor use or near a heat source.

Q: Can I install my own countertops?

A: Mountain Tops is a full service business; we offer design consultations, project template .

fabrication and installation. We do not recommend installing larger projects; kitchens, shower walls, or vanities on own without any material or construction knowledge.

We can however fabricate niches, sills or thresholds for you to install on your own.

Larger projects – warranties can be voided without certified installers.

Q: Will my countertops have visible seams?

A: Not all countertops have seams, we initially talk about possible seams during initial

consultations. Seam, placements will be determined by us and will be based on slab sizes and cabinet configuration. Seams are not guaranteed to be invisible. Depending on color, patterns or veins, they can show the seams more. At Mountain Tops, we take pride in

having tighter seams and better vein matching than competitors.

Q: How do I schedule my job and receive an installation date?

A: If you are working through a contractor or a cabinet designer, they will coordinate with us on timing of template and installation. If you are managing your own project, tell us the time frame of when your cabinets are being completely installed to schedule a template date. After template; turnaround time can vary by the projects ahead in the queue. Typically, installation would be 3-6 weeks after template, we will contact you 1-2 weeks before to set up the date.
